you most likely have a 30-50 gallon water tank that heats the water to about 120 degrees which is pumped to your shower, washing machine, kitchen or bathroom sinks. Well, when the water in the tank goes below 120 degrees, the heater senses this and kicks on to bring the water back up to temp. While you may actually need this happening during the day, why on earth would you need your water heated when you are asleep? So, how would I shut off the water heater when I'm asleep? you may ask - here's how in a nutshell. If you shut the hot water down from 10:00pm until 6:00am, you will still have enough hot water in the tank for an evening shower and the tank won't be reheating the water all night long while you sleep.
3) There's yet an easier way. Purchase a Utilitech Digital Timer or AutoChron Wireless Programmable Wall Switch Timer. Both are battery powered timers. Simply remove the wall switch and replace it with the Ulititech or AutoChron switch.
